Inside – Out Beauty Program
The Inside-Out Beauty Program teaches women to break through superficial barriers and find their true beauty, one that comes from within. Past experiences and setbacks can be damaging to a woman’s self-confidence and outlook on life. However, we firmly believe that with guidance, every woman can find self-esteem, self-acceptance and self-love –– the keys to turning on the inner glow from within ourselves.
The Inside–Out Beauty Program places strong emphasis on character development to help these young lives build their foundation of values and character strengths that will last a lifetime.
What’s in the Program?
LIFE SKILLS TRAINING
To help WINners to explore their abilities and to develop adaptive and positive behaviour that will enable them to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.
VOCATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING
WINners will undergo training in beauty-related skills. They will
learn how to stay focused and to develop resilience and character traits like self-reliance and patience.
At the same time, they will be taught the importance of time management, teamwork and good work ethics which are some of the critical factors for personal success.
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Recreational activities are more than just having fun, pleasure and enjoyment. Most importantly they are beneficial for the WINners’ overall health and well-being.
COUNSELLING
WINners who need psychological intervention will be assigned to a counsellor.
PSYCHOSOCIAL SKILLS TRAINING
To help WINners to enhance their personal and social functioning by building self-awareness, managing emotions and gaining greater understanding on how they can better interact with and relate to others.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Community involvement create opportunities for the WINners to show love and care to the vulnerable groups in the community.
Community Partnerships
It is our hope that other female youths outside of the WINners’ Home can also benefit from the Inside-Out Beauty Program. Over the years, GEM New Start Centre has extended our impact through collaborations with community partners such as Singapore Prison Service (SPS), The Turning Point (TTP), The Gladiolus Place (formerly known as AG Home) and other social service agencies. Since 2012, over 120 female inmates below the age of 35 at Cluster A4 (formerly known as Changi Women’s Prison) have also been touched and impacted through the Inside-Out Beauty Program.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has put a halt to running the yearly program with the various organizations, GEM NSC continues to serve marginalised WINners within our reach to bring a beacon of hope to them.
