Highlights In 2018
In July and August 2018, about 60 Singapore Prison Services (SPS) officers from various departments visited GEM NSC as part of their learning journey to gain a better understanding of the services that GEM is providing for the community.
Their visits also help to strengthen the partnership between SPS and GEM NSC as we continue to run life skills and beauty program in cluster A4. We look forward to many good years of partnership with SPS to help steer the inmates towards a purposeful life on their journey of rehabilitation.
Engaging in community service provides the participants of Inside-Out Beauty Program with the opportunity to use the skills they have learnt to provide services to the needy and to leave a positive impact on the society.
In 2018, GEM’s Inside-out Beauty beneficiaries had the opportunity to partner with Blessed Grace Community Services (BGSS) by volunteering for three of their events: Flag day on 17 March, provide beauty services that includes nails painting and hand massage for the elderly residing at Chai Chee area on 22 June, and lastly make-up for the elderly performance at BGSS fundraising dinner on 22 August.
Other than providing beauty services, GEM’s beneficiaries also participated in Unlabelled Run organised by The New Charis Mission on June 30 where we also helped to champion the cause to remove the labels on not just the transformed ex-offenders but everyone in general.
GEM strongly encourage the beneficiaries to give back to the society, showing love and care to others and to be a contributing citizen despite of their background and situation.
