We have moved to 2 Springleaf View in preparation for WINners Home.

Having a short run way, the staff and team took up the seemingly impossible challenge to handle renovation to packing and cleaning up the place to the day of the move and to settle in within 3 weeks of preparation.

Thanks to the team of supportive staff for their dedication and hard work!

Heartiest congratulations to WINNER A and WINNER B for successfully completing 6 months of In-side Out Beauty Programme!

They have persevered on despite of the challenges they faced and we are proud of their achievement.

What keeps me going is the support that I received from the staff. Thank you! – WINNER A

GEM held its inaugural garage sale on November 18, Sunday to raise funds for the programme needs to help Women-In-Need (WIN).

We received overwhelming responses from friends and volunteers who not only helped to publicise the event among their friends but also helped to contribute their pre-loved and new items. We received a huge variety of items ranging from general household items, kitchenware, bric-a-brac,  jewellery, cosmetics, beauty items to collector’s items. Some even asked when we’ll be holding the next garage sale! Who knows, this garage sale may well be our annual fund-raising event.

Thanks to everyone who supported to make this event a success; and through which we have collected total proceeds of $ 2,000.

The spirit of volunteerism was strong within Dianna as she gathered a big team of volunteers for this festive occasion. It is wonderful for GEM to be a part of this outreach where we helped to spread yuletide joy and cheers to the patients at Bright Vision Hospital on 14 December 2017 afternoon.

The group of volunteers did not fail to dress up to the occasion where they came adorned with red outfits and hats to brighten up the place.  It was rewarding to see many faces lighted up when the team went from ward to ward, bringing melodic songs of carols to them, as many of the patients had been there for a long time.

One cannot underestimate the power of the aroma of freshly baked cake because it not only activate your senses but also has the soothing effect to eliminate stress. This is one of the reasons why the girls look forward to Thursday because they will get to enjoy and savour their moment of accomplishment as they see their finished work neatly set on the table. Our dedicated volunteers, Angela and Doreen come in faithfully to teach the WIN to bake cakes, cookies and prepare simple dishes for lunch. Other than cakes, they openly share their home recipes which include a famous hakka dish called abacus seeds, traditional desserts like kueh selat, Putu Ayu and  oven-baked chicken and more.

Other than Angela and Doreen, we also have a mother-daughter team, Penny and Tiffany that come in to demonstrate the making of Korean army stew and needless to say, it is well loved by all. “Mashit-da” (Delicious in Korean)

To our volunteers, thanks for your big heart in loving the girls.

HOT and COLD CHRISTMAS!

The spirit of yuletide ring in the festive cheer with a curated line-up of shows and carolling performances across the town adding to the charm of the glittering Christmas light-up at Orchard Road. Not missing out from the spirit of Christmas, GEM organised a gathering on Dec 22, 2017 where over 20 of us gathered on a rainy evening to chill out over charcoal grilled seafood BBQ and a sumptuous spread of food.

Wide grins and greasy hands were a common sight as all were seen enjoying the mouth-watering lobster and spicy lala (clams) specially prepared by one of the WIN’s father. It was heartwarming to see the WIN’s family serving together from food preparation to serving the guests as such opportunity is rare. Where possible, GEM creates opportunities for the WINs and their family to bond together.

The evening is well-spent as all were treated with delectable food, good fellowship round the table. Best of all, the special performances and carolling were an unexpected treat and adds colour and vibrancy to the evening. More than just fun, it is where hearts were connected and closer relationships fostered. Many gave a thumbs up for a well spent evening and were looking forward to the next gathering!
